In his day, Wallace Nutting (1861-1941) was among the most popular and prolific artists working in America. By his own estimation, millions of his fanciful photos were produced into what became a cottage industry for the man who started out as a preacher. Along with lithographs, hand-tinted photographs were an affordable way for the growing middle-class to add art to the walls of their homes. These mass produced works on paper brightened the lives of Americans who could not afford to commission or purchase original paintings. This looks to be a hand tinted lithograph, attached to a stone pressed sheet with a nice dark and clear signature by the artist. Not a photo. Similar to other pastoral scenes in his portfolio but we haven't located an exact example on the WWW yet.
