The original statue portrays a young satyr pouring wine from a wineskin, which he clutches under his left arm, into a cup (now missing) that he held in his right hand. Around his head he wears a wreath made of a completely leafless branch with three pine cones; the young muscular body, with the bust bent backwards, is supported by the flexed right leg, while the left leg is stretched to balance the weight in a position so as to prevent the wineskin, which he is looking at intently, from slipping from his grasp. The young satyr presumably formed part of a group: one missing member is probably Silenus who would have received the cup to drink its contents. In the Casa del Centenario (House of the Centenary) it was used as a decoration for the fountain."
