Corita Kent (1918–1986) was an artist, educator, and advocate for social justice. She joined the religious order Immaculate Heart of Mary at 18, and became head of the art department at Immaculate Heart College. Her artwork evolved from religious to political, urging people to consider poverty, racism, and injustice. In 1968 she moved to Boston and her work became more introspective. She remained active in social causes until her death in 1986, having created almost 800 serigraph editions, thousands of watercolors, and numerous public and private commissions.
