Lot #0001: Willie Mays signed montage by Diane Marie Cobert Brunner; depicts street scene in Harlem where Mays was a popular figure participating in local stickball games, where it was said that in the urban game of hitting a rubber ball with an adapted broomstick handle, Mays could hit a shot "six sewers" (6 consecutive New York City manhole covers, nearly 300 feet). A note card (lower right) says: "In 1950 when the Giants signed me, they gave me $15,000. I bought a 1950 Mercury. I couldn't drive, but I had it in the parking lot there, and everybody that could drive would drive the car, so it was like a community "thing" - Willie Mays" The artist has exhibited her works at the Empire State Building, the Museum of Contemporary Art in San Diego, the Yogi Berra Museum in New Jersey and the Museum of the Living Artist in San Diego. 21 1/2"W x 26 1/2"T x 7 1/2"D {comes with custom made clear plexiglass cover} Description altered Dec. 6 at 9:54am ET
