All items closed

This week we are pleased to offer a New to Market collection of more than 50 Lots of 19th Century Native American Prairie, Plains and Plateau Indian Artifacts, including an important 24 linear foot Ute Bear Dance story cloth, painted in ink and pigment, attributed to Ute Indian Louis Fenno of the Timpanogos tribe, known as the greatest artist and historian of Ute culture.

The collection also includes many Plains and Plateau tribal artifacts from the last quarter of the 19th Century, acquired from the ancestors of the Cavanaugh family of Northern Virginia, who in their duties as U.S. Army officers were sent west in the 1870’s and stationed at numerous Forts and outposts in western territories and states.

The collection has passed down through several generations of the Cavenaugh family and awaits appropriate conservation.

For additional information on both the story cloth artist and the family that acquired the collection, see Lot 2
